FAQs — Frequently Asked Questions About Camping

Q:  Who should attend the Pack camping trip?

A:  Most camping trips are intended for all pack members along with siblings and families.  Most of our Cub Scout activities are intended for the entire family.  Minimally, the scout should attend with one parent or adult sponsor.  Occasionally there are trips that are intended for scouts only (such as Camp Bovay). We’ll let you know of any such restrictions in advance of camping.

Q:  I’ve never camped – what should I bring?

A:  Minimally, you’ll want all of the following: a tent, something warm to sleep-in (sleeping bags/blankets/etc), folding chairs, flashlights, food & water, gear to store & prepare the food & water that you’ve brought.  Additionally, you may want to bring bicycles, fishing gear, and other outdoor toys (kites / balls / etc).

Q:  I’ve never camped – what conditions should I expect?

A:  The pack generally will be camping within a site area that’s accessible by car.  Generally, the sites are large enough for 4 or 5 tents.  Water and electric hookups are often available at each of the sites.  Restroom and shower facilities are generally located within a short walking distance.  Generally, the restrooms include flush toilets and hot running water (although you will probably need to bring your own soap and towels).

Q:  When should I arrive?

A:  Anytime!  The primary purpose of the trip is to provide our pack families an opportunity to experience the outdoors together.  We will generally follow an open agenda. All agenda items are entirely optional and subject to your individual interests and availability.  When you arrive at the park, let the park ranger know that you are with “Pack 446” — the ranger will let you know where we are camping.

Q:  Do parents need to attend?

A:  Yes!  A parent or adult sponsor is required to participate in the camping trip.
This is not a “drop-off” activity!

Q:  Do I need to make a reservation or let anyone know that I plan to attend?

A:  Yes, let your den leader know when you plan to arrive.  The pack will reserve enough campsites for everyone to share (with multiple tents on each site).  It’s recommended that each den should coordinate weekend plans amongst themselves (you may want to share meal responsibilities, firewood and/or gear such as camp-stoves and dining-flies).

Q:  Will food be supplied?

A:  No. Meals are the individual responsibility of each camper with a few rare exceptions.
